Help for Seniors & Caregivers in Southeast Michigan

As we age, it’s natural to need a little extra help—from getting around to managing finances or navigating care options. Whether it’s your parent, spouse, neighbor, or a loved one, there are many programs and services designed to help older adults stay safe, healthy, and independent at home.

Below is a helpful guide to resources available in metro Detroit and southeast Michigan. While many programs have eligibility requirements (such as income or health needs), this list is a great place to start.


💸 Financial Help & Benefit Programs

A free, easy-to-use website from the National Council on Aging that helps seniors and caregivers explore available financial assistance.

Veterans Administration Benefits
If your loved one served during wartime (even for one day), they may qualify for the VA’s Aid & Attendance or Housebound benefit—extra financial support for in-home care.
✔ Must have served 90 consecutive days (at least 1 during wartime)
✔ Surviving spouses may also qualify

🏥 Medicare & Medicaid Support

Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP)
This statewide program offers free, unbiased help with Medicare and Medicaid. Trained volunteers can:
