AgeWays will be distributing free food boxes for people 60 and older at various locations during the month of November:
The boxes will be placed directly into vehicles to minimize contact (drivers are asked to stay in their cars).
The food boxes include non-perishable items such as canned vegetables, canned meat, rice, pasta and peanut butter and a recipe guide to create meals with them. The food was secured in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Food Bank Council of Michigan and Gleaner’s Community Food Bank.
Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The agency has approximately 400 food boxes ready to distribute. Family members caring for an older adult may pick up food on behalf of their loved one. Questions can be directed to AgeWays’s Information and Assistance phone line at 800-852-7795. This phone line can also help connect seniors with other resources, including Meals on Wheels and in-home care programs.
