AgeWays Hosting Virtual Public Hearing to Get Senior Spending Feedback

Public Invited to Give Input on Spending for Aging Services

AgeWays is holding a public hearing to get feedback on a draft of its Area Implementation Plan that maps out how almost $22 million federal and state funding earmarked for senior services in its six-county service region will be spent in the  2021 fiscal year. The agency’s service region includes much of southeast Michigan, including Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. About 30 percent of the state’s seniors—nearly 730,000 people over age 60—reside in its service area.

The event will take place Wednesday, May 20, from 1- 2 p.m. and will be held virtually. The public can join the meeting online or phone in. Older adults, family caregivers, aging services providers and anyone with an interest in services for older adults is invited to attend and give feedback. Advance registration is not required.

The plan covers fiscal year 2021, which runs from October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. It includes funding for 25 distinct programs for older adults that include Meals on Wheels and congregate dining programs, in-home care programs, chore services that help older adults maintain their homes, programs for grandparents raising grandchildren, and an information and referral telephone line that helps older adults and their families navigate long-term care and find local resources.

Funding is received from the State of Michigan’s Aging & Adult Services Agency via the Older Michiganians Act and from the federal Administration for Community Living via the Older Americans Act
