AgeWays Holding Food Distribution for Seniors: Monday, April 27

AgeWays is holding a pop-up pantry in Warren on Monday, April 27, to distribute 400 free emergency food boxes to seniors. From noon to 2 p.m., the “Q boxes” (quarantine boxes) will be available at 21919 Schoenherr, between 9 Mile and Toepfer.

The boxes are available on a first come-first served basis to adults 60 and older who live in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties.

Volunteers from AgeWays will help people load the 26-pound boxes in their vehicles.

The Q boxes contain 33 items that include canned goods and a variety of staples like rice, pasta and peanut butter – and recipe ideas to create 22 meals. The boxes are designed to help seniors stretch their food resources during the coronavirus pandemic and the governor’s Stay Safe/Stay Home Executive Order.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services partnered with the Food Bank Council of Michigan and Gleaner’s Community Food Bank to distribute 10,000 boxes to 16 Area Agencies on Aging throughout the state. AgeWays received more than 2,200 and has been steadily getting them to the most vulnerable seniors in our service area.

“Many seniors and their families are now feeling much more secure thanks to the emergency food boxes,” says Michael Karson, AgeWays president and CEO. “We want to make sure they don’t have to risk going to the grocery store for basics during this crisis.”
