Assistance for LGBT Seniors

Home/Services for Seniors/Assistance for LGBT Seniors

AgeWays is proud to partner with MiGen, a local nonprofit that addresses training, education, advocacy, and service needs for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) older adults. MiGen began as the grassroots LGBT Older Adult Coalition, and AgeWays has been a part of this important work since the beginning.

Together with the Detroit Area Agency on Aging and The Senior Alliance, we’ve established a precedent-setting system to help senior service agencies better serve LGBT older adults in Southeast Michigan. This includes:

  • Tailored training for staff to use affirming language and ask questions in culturally appropriate ways

  • Technical support for data teams

  • In-service training for all staff across our three agencies

If you’ve been hesitant to call, or if you know an older adult who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and needs support, please reach out to our trained and affirming staff at (800) 852-7795.
